Lavender is a fragrant herb that grows as a small bush. Its violet-blue flowers and narrow leaves emit a characteristic smell, which is very soothing. Lavender can help us get rid of stress, treat eczema, relax the body and mind, and is beneficial for rheumatic pains and hay fever. Lavender is also great for insomnia.
Preparing your own lavender sachets is easy and inexpensive. The materials needed are basic, and may even have them in the cupboard already! This is the perfect project if you want to get that fresh summer feeling throughout the rest of the year at home. Making homemade lavender sachets is the perfect solution if you love the smell of lavender and want something that won’t give off harmful chemicals!
You’ll need:
- Sewing needle and thread or crocheting yarn
- Scissors
- 1/4 yard of fabric (such as muslin or a lightweight bag)
- Lavender buds (or flower heads)
To make lavender sachets, first, decide on the size of sachet you would like to make. A standard-size sachet is approximately 4 inches by 6 inches, but you can make them larger or smaller depending on your needs. You can also choose to make a square or triangle-shaped sachets.
Next, cut two pieces of fabric that are roughly the same size as your desired sachet size, plus 1 extra inch on all sides. Once your fabric is ready, place your desired amount of dried lavender on one piece of fabric and then place the other piece of fabric on top. Sew up all four sides of the sachet to create a tight seal. You can add embellishments such as buttons or ribbons to add a finishing touch to your sachet.
