When you lose loved ones, honoring their memories is important. Though you keep them alive in your heart, you may want to find a way to outwardly express what that person meant to you and the rest of the community. There are several ways to do that. You could establish an annual charity event to support a cause that was close to your loved one’s heart. Simply wearing a piece of jewelry that meant a great deal to your loved one can be a display of love and remembrance.

If you want to give others a way to remember your loved one and honor his or her contribution to the world, a memorial garden is a wonderful way to do so. It creates a public space for people to visit and enjoy the beauty of nature. It’s also a place where visitors can pay their respects to your lost loved one while also reflecting on themselves and their own lives. Of course, to create a space like this, you’ll need to plan and raise money for the project, and the latter is often the most difficult part. Consider the following strategies for funding a memorial garden so you can take this special place from concept to completion.

Hold a Brick Fundraiser

One way to raise money to create a memorial garden is to hold a brick fundraiser. That entails selling bricks or tiles on which donors can have personal messages engraved. Then, you can have those bricks or tiles incorporated into the garden itself. They’re perfect for creating decorative walls, paths, and other hardscapes. They can beautify the garden and bring it to fruition while also paying tribute to all the donors who helped to made it possible.

Donors can choose the types of bricks or tiles they want to contribute as well as the messages they’d like to have engraved, their fonts, and other details. You’ll need to cover the cost of the bricks and the engraving services, but that will only take up a portion of the money you raise through the event. The remainder will come to you so you can invest it in the memorial garden.

Host a Planting Event

Another way to raise money for a memorial garden is to host a planting event. Once you secure a plot of land for the garden, you can invite people to bring plants to add to it. Set a date and time for the event, and invite potential donors to come. You can give them guidelines for the types of plants you want to be part of the garden or encourage them to bring any plants they like.

You can charge a fee for people to participate or simply let their plants be their contributions. As is the case with any fundraiser, you’ll need to advertise it. Social media is a highly effective way to do so. You can also spread the word through your church’s website or other outlets. During the event, people can fellowship and talk about their memories of your loved one. Once the garden is complete, they can return anytime they like to not only remember your loved one but also look back on the role they played in creating the memorial.

Honoring Your Loved One With a Memorial Garden

Memorial gardens create beautiful, peaceful spaces where people can think and reflect. They’re lovely tributes to lost loved ones, and they contribute to the community as a whole. The options listed here are only a couple of ways you can raise money for a project like this. No matter which fundraising method you use, the end results will keep your loved one’s memory alive in people’s hearts.
