I just finished watching World War II in Color and, of course, my astrologer brain immediately went, “Wait… what does Hitler’s birth chart look like?” I was actually surprised that I had never properly looked at it before. The thought had crossed my mind a few times over the years, but I never had enough curiosity to pull up the chart. Until now.
Hitler was born on 20 April 1889 in Braunau am Inn, Austria, with a Taurus Sun and Libra Ascendant. And once I opened his chart, several placements immediately caught my attention. Power, control, manipulation, image, appearance, and an intense focus on the self and other people run through it repeatedly.
There is also a strong emphasis on communication and public authority, which becomes especially interesting when you already know how heavily his rise depended on speeches, propaganda, carefully constructed imagery, and control over the masses.
Libra Rising and the Importance of Image
With Libra rising, Venus rules Hitler’s entire chart, making Venus one of the first planets I would examine. Libra is strongly associated with appearance, aesthetics, presentation, social interactions, and the image we create in front of others.
His interest in art fits this placement well. He painted, applied to the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, and later understood the power of visual presentation extremely well. His political image was carefully constructed through uniforms, symbols, architecture, staged photographs, rallies, and even his instantly recognizable hairstyle and mustache.
Accounts also describe a strong preoccupation with his own public image and appearance, including how he looked in photographs and how he presented himself in front of crowds. That fits the Libra Ascendant far better than simply reducing Libra to beauty or charm. Appearance becomes something deliberately managed.
Libra is naturally associated with the 7th house, the area of the chart connected with other people, opponents, alliances, contracts, and open enemies. And Hitler’s own 7th house is especially important because his chart ruler, Venus, is placed there alongside Mars. For me, that immediately makes the 7th house one of the first places to examine in his chart.
Venus Retrograde Conjunct Mars
His chart ruler, Venus, is retrograde in Taurus and tightly conjunct Mars in the 7th house. Venus is especially strong here: Taurus is one of the signs it rules, while the 7th house is naturally associated with Venusian themes such as relationships, alliances, and dealing with other people. On paper, that could be a beautiful placement. But this Venus is retrograde, joined by Mars, and squared by Saturn, which changes the picture considerably.
Venus conjunct Mars mixes attraction with aggression, pleasure with force, and cooperation with competition. In the 7th house, much of that energy becomes directed toward other people, opponents, alliances, and open enemies. Taurus adds persistence. Once these planets want something, changing direction can be extremely difficult.
This combination can describe someone who plays hardball to get what they want and uses relationships strategically. Compromise becomes much harder when desire and aggression are fused together in a fixed sign. In Hitler’s life, relationships with allies and enemies alike repeatedly became questions of loyalty, control, usefulness, and power.
Taurus also has a strong connection with the physical body, appearance, possessions, and personal value. With his chart ruler retrograde here, I would also question how secure his sense of self actually was beneath the carefully managed exterior. The urge to control other people can sometimes grow alongside insecurity about oneself.
Venus retrograde by itself does not indicate cruelty, and neither does Venus conjunct Mars. But a retrograde chart ruler conjunct Mars and under a square from Saturn creates considerably more friction around Venusian themes. In his chart, love, approval, relationships, self-image, desire, conflict, and control are all tied together through the same configuration.
Saturn in Leo in the 10th House
Saturn in Leo in the 10th house immediately stands out in the chart of someone so strongly associated with authority and public power. Saturn represents control, hierarchy, discipline, restriction, and consequences, while the 10th house rules career, reputation, status, and the legacy attached to your name.
In Leo, Saturn adds a strong need for recognition, leadership, and visibility. This is one placement that fits someone whose name would remain known long after his death, even for the darkest possible reasons.
Moon and Jupiter in Capricorn
His Moon and Jupiter are conjunct in Capricorn in the 3rd house, adding another strong Saturnian signature. Capricorn Moon can keep emotions tightly controlled or hidden, while Jupiter expands whatever it touches, potentially magnifying ambition, convictions, and emotional extremes.
The 3rd house rules thinking, speech, ideas, writing, and communication, which is especially striking for someone who spread his ideology largely through speeches and propaganda. Moon here can also describe a very active inner dialogue. With Jupiter amplifying it in reserved Capricorn, he may have carried an enormous private world of thoughts, plans, and beliefs that people around him knew very little about.
Mercury in Aries Near the Descendant
Mercury in Aries fits his documented speaking style much more convincingly than many of the darker interpretations people attach to his chart.
Mercury in Aries communicates quickly, forcefully, and directly. It can argue aggressively, interrupt, provoke, and use language as a weapon. Hitler’s speeches were highly emotional, repetitive, accusatory, and confrontational.
His Mercury also sits close to the Descendant, bringing communication directly into his dealings with other people, opponents, alliances, and open enemies.
The 7th house goes far beyond romance. It describes direct encounters with others, agreements, conflict, opposition, and the people standing across from us.
Pluto, Lilith and Neptune in Gemini
Pluto, Lilith and Neptune are all in Gemini in the 8th house, creating a strong concentration around power, control, secrets, and influence over others. Gemini rules communication, information, language, and speech, and Hitler gained much of his power through exactly those channels: public speaking, propaganda, repeated messaging, and control of information.
Pluto and Neptune are generational planets, so these placements alone say little about an individual. But their 8th-house position becomes more interesting in his particular chart, especially with Pluto occupying the house traditionally associated with Plutonian themes such as power, manipulation, destruction, and transformation.
The 8th house is also associated with the occult, hidden knowledge, and taboo subjects. Hitler and especially several prominent figures within the Nazi movement had documented interests in occult and esoteric ideas, adding another interesting connection to this heavily occupied house.
Uranus Opposite Mercury
Mercury also opposes Uranus by a wider orb, adding volatility and extremity to the mental picture.
Uranus can produce radical ideas, sudden changes of thought, provocation, rebellion, and a desire to break from accepted systems. Opposite Mercury, communication can become disruptive, shocking, uncompromising, or deliberately provocative. In Hitler’s case, radical ideology became inseparable from communication.
Sun at 0° Taurus
Hitler’s Sun sits at 0° Taurus, the very beginning of the sign. I would avoid reading this as “half Aries.” A planet at 0° of a sign is already fully in that sign. What does stand out is how strongly Taurus themes became distorted in his life: land, territory, possession, resources, permanence, and the desire to secure something physically and hold onto it.
Taurus is fixed earth. Once committed, it can display enormous endurance. At its worst expression, that persistence becomes refusal to change course even when reality has become catastrophic.
Power Written Through the Chart
Hitler’s chart contains far more than a collection of “dark placements.” What stands out to me is how the same themes repeat throughout it: authority, conflict, communication, control, enemies, ideology, ambition, and public power. Several placements tell different versions of the same story.
That repetition is far more interesting astrologically than searching for one placement that supposedly explains who he became. A natal chart gives us the whole picture, and knowing how Hitler actually lived makes it easier to see which parts of his chart he expressed most strongly and destructively.
I have yet to look properly at Hitler’s progressed chart, which could add another layer, especially around major turning points in his life, his rise to power, and the war years. But that deserves an article of its own.
