Progressed Mars in astrology shows how your energy, ambition, drive, and way of taking action develop over a long stretch of your life. Because Mars moves incredibly slowly by secondary progression, its changes are major ones. It can spend decades in the same area of your chart and may change signs only once or twice during your lifetime.
While the progressed Moon moves through the entire zodiac in roughly 27 to 28 years, progressed Mars can spend decades covering a relatively small section of your chart.
In secondary progressions, one day after birth corresponds to one year of life. Mars moves around half a degree per day on average, which translates to roughly half a degree per year by progression. Its actual speed depends on where Mars was in its cycle after your birth. If it approached a station, progressed Mars can barely move for years.
Because of this slow movement, progressed Mars can remain in the same house for a very long time, directing your effort, ambition, anger, motivation, and desire toward that area of life. Some people see it change houses only once or twice across several decades, although the timing depends on house size and the house cusps you are using.
I was born with Mars at 10°51′ Virgo in the 6th house. When I was eight, my progressed Mars crossed my Descendant and entered the 7th house. By age 34, it was still there, although it had finally left Virgo and entered Libra. Years later, it remains in my 7th house, and according to my progressions, it will stay there for roughly another 55 years.
That gives you an idea of just how slowly progressed Mars can move. In my case, one progressed Mars house has covered almost my entire life and will continue doing so for decades.

You become more willing to act for yourself. Independence, physical activity, personal goals, and asserting your needs receive more energy. You may also become quicker to confront people when they cross your boundaries.

Money becomes something you actively pursue. You may work harder to increase your income, build financial independence, start earning through your own skills, or spend more aggressively. Possessions and financial security can become strong motivators.
Progressed Mars in the 3rd House
Your mind and communication become more active. Writing, studying, speaking, driving, short trips, siblings, and everyday communication can consume more of your time. Your words may become sharper too, especially when you have something to defend.
Progressed Mars in the 4th House
Home and family require action. You may move, renovate, buy property, deal with family issues, or put considerable effort into creating your own home. Family conflicts that have remained unresolved can finally reach the point where something has to be done.

Romance, sex, creativity, hobbies, children, and pleasure become more active. You may pursue someone you want, throw yourself into a creative project, become more competitive in a hobby, or devote enormous energy to your children.
Progressed Mars in the 6th House
Work can become demanding, busy, or physically exhausting. You may take on more tasks, change jobs, become serious about exercise, or completely reorganize your daily routine. Health and the way you use your body can require more attention too.
Progressed Mars in the 7th House
Relationships become more active and sometimes more confrontational. You may strongly pursue partnership, experience greater sexual chemistry, or finally address problems you previously tolerated. Mars here can also bring competition, arguments, or legal disputes involving other people.
Progressed Mars in the 8th House
Sex, shared money, debt, taxes, inheritance, investments, and financial dependence can require action. Intimate relationships may become more intense. You may also become determined to understand something psychologically that you previously preferred to leave buried.
Progressed Mars in the 9th House
Travel, foreign countries, education, publishing, law, religion, and personal beliefs receive more energy. You may study seriously, travel more, move abroad, learn a language, publish something, or become much more outspoken about what you believe.
Progressed Mars in the 10th House
Career ambition can increase considerably. You want to accomplish something, gain recognition, take control of your professional direction, or work toward a position with greater authority. Conflict with bosses or authority figures can also become more prominent.
Progressed Mars in the 11th House
You put more effort into friendships, groups, communities, online networks, and long-term goals. You may join an organization, build an audience, work toward a dream you have postponed, or become more selective about the people you keep around you.
Progressed Mars in the 12th House
Mars moves into a house where action is less visible. You may work on something privately, spend more time alone, or direct enormous effort toward something nobody else knows about yet. Anger you have suppressed can also become harder to contain, especially if you have spent years avoiding confrontation.
Why Progressed Mars House Changes Are Important
Progressed Mars moves slowly enough that entering a new house can describe a major change in where your effort goes for years to come. One chapter may revolve around work, while the next becomes dominated by relationships, home, money, travel, or another area entirely.
That is why I would pay close attention to the year progressed Mars crosses a house cusp. Mars may have spent many years activating the previous house, and once it enters the next one, you begin having something different to fight for, pursue, build, or finally do.
