A while back, I thought I’d check out what was happening on Reddit to pass the time. I scrolled through a bunch of different subs before landing on r/Paranormal. That’s when I saw this post from years ago about staircases found in the woods. “No way, that’s so creepy!” I thought. Well, that piqued my interest for sure.
I kept reading more and more about these staircases in the middle of nowhere. Being bored with nothing else to do, I dove down the rabbit hole. I read through all the other discussions and comments people had about it. By the end, I had pieced together a pretty wild theory about what those staircases might really be about.
A Gateway To Other Dimensions
Apparently, a lot of people who are into mysteries and the unknown think the random staircases in the woods might be some kind of portal to another dimension. One Redditor commented that there are actually several reports of people disappearing after coming across stairs in the forest. He even mentioned one guy who was walking his dog and just vanished! All they ever found was the poor pup alone on the other side of a lake.
Things like that really make you wonder what else could be out there beyond what we see every day. Maybe those staircases really do open up to some other place!
A Witch’s Tool
Stairs are kind of a big deal when it comes to witches and the occult. They see stairs as a way to get closer to the heavens or the moon. It makes sense when you think about all those old fairy tales where the witch would live at the very top of a huge tree. They must have used stairs or a ladder to get up that high!
Can you imagine finding a staircase just out in the middle of the woods? I’d be freaking out thinking some witch or forest ghost was nearby. Then again, it might just be a totally normal set of stairs and not magic at all.
“Logical” Explanations
Mysteries are definitely out there in this crazy world of ours. But we can’t go labeling everything unknown as some big mystery. Just because we don’t get something doesn’t mean it’s automatically some big puzzle. I’ve heard a few ideas floating around about those staircases in the woods. Here are some of the theories people have:
A Remnant of An Old House
Staircases are usually very sturdy. They’re one of the strongest parts of a house, so even if a house really goes downhill and falls into disrepair, the stairs will probably still be standing right where they’ve always been.
That’s what made me think – if you saw a staircase out in the middle of the woods somewhere, it could totally be all that’s left of an old house that used to be there. The house around it might have crumbled and broken down over the years, but those stairs would stand strong through it all.
After enough time passes and the house is completely gone, the staircase could end up being one of the only things left standing as a reminder that a building was once there.
Occult Rituals
There are all sorts of occult groups out there doing different rituals and ceremonies. It’s interesting because stairs seem to symbolize important concepts in many cultures and religions. They can represent growth, progressing through life, or getting closer to God or heaven.
Some people also think stairs can connect to other beings or entities that exist out there in the universe. So, if you’re ever hiking in the woods and come across some stairs just sitting there, it wouldn’t be too crazy to think they could be related to some occult group’s rituals. Those secretive cults may have used the stairs as part of one of their ceremonies long ago.
Movie Scene
Film crews shoot movies on location all the time, and they often need structures like stairs for certain scenes. Can’t you just picture some big action sequence taking place on a winding stairway deep in the forest?
Also, some people just love to play games outdoors. Just imagine a giant game of capture the flag or paintball where the players have to navigate staircases between trees to try and outmaneuver each other. Building fun obstacles is a big part of making those games more exciting.
People are up to all kinds of activities when they head into the woods. Who knows what kind of projects or games they might be working on. Stairs could definitely be part of something like that.
Remains From World War II
Growing up in Central Europe, I’d come across the strangest things in the woods from time to time. Staircases, just sitting there in the middle of nowhere! It always blew my mind to find steps leading to nowhere. But then I started to realize, these must have been from the old bunkers and shelters they had during World War 2.
That time, people just wanted to put the war behind them. So they tore down all those bunkers and shelters, trying to erase what happened. But getting rid of concrete isn’t so easy. They’d cover everything with rocks and dirt, hoping Mother Nature would do the rest.
Well, turns out Mother Nature had other plans! Every so often, especially after big storms, those old bunker stairs would start peeking through again. It was wild to be wandering in the forest as a kid and suddenly spot steps from the past.
