A while back, I was bored and decided to browse Reddit, specifically the mysteries subreddit. I started reading some posts there and came across this 4-year-old post about staircases in the woods. “Hmm, that sounds so creepy,” I thought to myself. I began reading more posts and comments on the topic and came to an interesting conclusion.
I got curious when I saw that old post about staircases found in the middle of nowhere. Being bored, I dug deeper by checking out other discussions and comments on the strange phenomenon. By the end, I had pieced together an intriguing theory and conspiracies about what those staircases might really be about.
A Gateway To Other Dimensions
A lot of people into mysteries and the unknown seem to agree that staircases found in the woods could be gateways to other dimensions. I was reading online the other day, and this one commenter mentioned there are several reported cases of folks disappearing after coming across stairs in the forest.
He even brought up a story about a man walking his dog who vanished, and later, they only found the pup on the other side of a lake. This and many other stories make you wonder what could be out there beyond what we see every day. Maybe those staircases really do open up somewhere else.
A Witch’s Tool
In witchcraft and the occult, stairs are seen as a way to get closer to the sky, universe, or moon. There are actually a lot of fairy tales where the witch would live at the top of trees and would get up there either using stairs or a ladder.
Finding a staircase in the woods could mean a witch or some other supernatural forest creature is around. Or, it might not have anything to do with spirits at all! Who knows what’s really out there in the forest!
“Logical” Explanations
Mysteries and the unknown are definitely part of our world. But treating everything as a mystery isn’t always the best approach. Just because we don’t understand something doesn’t automatically make it mysterious. There are a few theories floating around about those staircases in the woods. Here are some of them:
A Remnant of An Old House
Staircases are one of the sturdiest structures in a house. So even if a house falls into disrepair, the chances that the staircase will remain in its place and original condition are very high. A staircase in the forest could, therefore, be a remnant of a dilapidated house. The staircase just stands strong even as the house around it crumbles and falls apart.
Over time, after the house is gone, the staircase may be one of the only things still standing, a reminder of what used to be. But still, it’s pretty wild to think about finding a staircase out in the middle of nowhere in the forest, with no other signs of a house.
Occult Rituals
There are a lot of occult groups out there that perform all sorts of different rituals. Stairs seem to represent growth, progress, and getting closer to God or heaven in many cultures. They can also connect to other beings that live in the universe.
So, if you happen to come across some stairs in the middle of the woods, it’s possible they were used as part of an occult ritual by some secretive cult or sect. They may have been the location for one of their ceremonies or rituals.
An Object From An Event
People can use stairs in the forest for all sorts of reasons. Some may have been filming a movie in there or whatnot. Others could have been playing paintball or another game that involves different structures like stairs. So that would be another possible “logical” explanation for why someone might build stairs out in the woods.
People are out there doing all kinds of activities when they hike into the forest. You never know what kind of projects or games people are working on. Stairs could definitely be part of something like that.
Remains From World War II
As someone born in Central Europe, I’ve come across staircases in the woods pretty often. It was always stairs that belonged to bunkers or shelters from World War 2. People often destroyed the bunkers or covered them with stones to erase any traces of the war from the surface of the earth. Even so, every now and then, there’s a chance to find a staircase that belonged to one of those military sites.
It’s interesting because, growing up there, I would occasionally find old staircases hidden in the woods. You could tell they were from the war-era bunkers and shelters. After the fighting ended, people seemed to want to get rid of any signs of what happened. They must have torn down the bunkers and buried them under rocks. But sometimes, over time, the stairs would become uncovered again. So, every once in a while, when wandering through the forest, you might spot a staircase that was clearly part of a bunker from back then.
