Granola bars are a great, healthy delicacy that gives us important nutrients and energy. Due to their size and consistency, they are ideal as a snack during travel, before sports or as a treat for those that have a sweet tooth.
Preparing homemade granola bars is simple, does not require much work or time, and above all, you are sure of what you eat because you have control over what ingredients you make granola bars from.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup walnuts
- 1/3 cup sunflower seeds
- 1/4 cup almonds
- 3/4 cup grated coconut
- 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds
- 2 full cups of oatmeal (but you can use any nuts or seeds – sesame seeds, cashews, peanuts, raisins …)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup oil and water
- 1/4 cup honey
Instructions:
Mix honey, sugar, oil and water and heat it over medium heat for 2-3 minutes until the sugar starts to dissolve and the mixture thickens slightly. Then, add two cups of oatmeals and all the nuts and seeds. Mix properly.
You can also add different kinds of dried fruits or unflavored protein powder for added nutrients.
Spread the mixture into square baking dish or deep plate. Use a spatula to spread the mixture so that it is uniform over the entire surface.
Bake at 180°C about 15-22 minutes. Baking time has a major effect on the crunchiness of those bars. If you bake them at the bottom of the time limit (15 minutes), they will be softer. If you want them to be more crispy, leave them in the oven for 20 to 22 minutes. It is up to you and whether you prefer softer or crisper bars.
You can eat your homemade granola bars either immediately after taking them out of the oven, or you can wrap them in transparent foil and store them in the fridge.
