Lyme disease is one of those conditions that hides in plain sight, invisible at first, and then suddenly life-changing. And in astrology, that theme often mirrors exactly what’s happening in the chart when it appears: something small, quiet, or overlooked turns into an important turning point.
The Astrology Behind My Lyme Diagnosis
In October, transit Mars in Scorpio in the 8th house formed an exact square to my 12th-house Moon in Aquarius. The 12th house rules hidden things, the subconscious, the immune system, and what grows beneath the surface. Mars brings heat, inflammation, irritation, and physical triggers like bites or infections. Scorpio is insects, parasites, and what hides deep under the skin.
At the exact transit? I felt absolutely nothing. No symptoms, no warning signs. I was out in the fields with my metal detector, enjoying the weather, completely unaware that anything had happened.
But Mars transits often activate slowly, especially when the Moon or the 12th house is involved.
Three weeks later, I noticed a rash next to my knee. At first, I thought it was a fungal spot and started treating it with antifungals, until the area became hot. When I stopped using the cream, that’s when I noticed the bull’s-eye. That moment of clarity was very Mars-in-Scorpio: the truth hiding underneath finally revealed itself.
I went to the doctor during another significant transit: Mars moving through my 9th house of knowledge in Sagittarius, squaring my natal Mars in the 6th house of health. The 9th house brings answers, diagnoses, and revelations. A Mars–Mars square often forces action, especially related to the body. That was the moment everything clicked into place, and I started antibiotics immediately.

Looking back, the symbolism was almost literal:
- Mars in the 8th house / Scorpio → bites, infections, toxins, hidden inflammation, and anything that burrows deep into or under the skin.
- 12th-house Moon in Aquarius → symptoms that begin quietly, beneath awareness. Aquarius rules the legs, and its ruler Saturn governs the knees, my rash appeared right beside my knee, and during antibiotics my knee pain intensified.
- 6th-house Mars → the health issue breaking through the surface and demanding action.
- 9th-house activation → the moment of clarity: receiving the diagnosis, understanding what was happening, and beginning treatment.
Astrology didn’t create the Lyme disease, but the timing and symbolic unfolding aligned with striking precision.
The Spiritual Meaning of Lyme Disease
Spiritually, Lyme disease is often viewed as an illness that teaches awareness and humility. Something tiny, a nearly invisible tick, a bite you never felt, can completely disrupt your physical equilibrium. The symbolism is unmistakable: even the smallest unattended issue, fear, wound, or imbalance can grow powerful when ignored.
It’s a lesson in paying attention, slowing down, and honoring what your body tries to tell you long before things escalate. Lyme forces you to face what you overlooked, physically and energetically.
For me, the experience brought several lessons:
Small Doesn’t Mean Insignificant
I learned that something invisible can have huge consequences. It reminded me to take my body seriously, even when symptoms feel minor or vague.
Slow Down Before Life Forces You To
During treatment, I couldn’t keep my usual pace. Lyme pushed me into rest, recovery, and stillness. It made me respect my limits instead of overriding them.
Healing Isn’t Linear… It’s Rhythmic
There were better days and worse days. The process taught me patience, true patience, not the performative kind. My body needed time, not pressure.
You Don’t Have to “Power Through” Everything
Mars transits can make us try to handle issues with force, action, or willpower. Lyme taught me the opposite: surrender, gentleness, and pacing are sometimes the real strength.
Your Body Speaks (Even When You Don’t Notice)
My 12th-house Moon tends to hide symptoms until they’re unavoidable. This experience showed me how important it is to listen early, not late.
What Lyme Brings on a Soul Level
Spiritually, Lyme often appears during periods of:
- overwork
- emotional overload
- ignoring the body’s signals
- running on adrenaline
- suppressing stress instead of processing it
It’s a “pause” teacher. A reminder to reconnect with your physical self. A push toward grounding, nourishment, and stillness.
In a symbolic sense, the tick acts like a messenger: Slow down. Pay attention. Something needs your care. And once you listen, the healing begins.
Of course, I’m not minimizing Lyme disease in any way. It’s serious, and those first three days on antibiotics were rough, far worse than I expected. So if you ever notice a strange rash, even one you think might just be from a mosquito or a fly, it’s worth getting it checked AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. You lose nothing by seeing a doctor, and you might catch something important early.
