People wanting to ascend past the physical realm have used marijuana since ancient times. Modern yogis follow in their footsteps, getting high to elevate their practice. How can a batch of buds from high-yielding seeds help you reach the spiritual dimension?

Join us to explore ganja as an entheogen through the times and share tips to assist your journey.

The History of Weed Spirituality

There’s plenty of historical and archeological evidence of marijuana use in various religions. Let’s start with a brief overview of how people of old applied the plant for spiritual purposes.

Shamans and cannabis had a close relationship in antiquity. Early healers in China used THC as treatment, invoking divine assistance to improve their herbal cures. In Korea, ritual attire for priests consisted of hemp, considered a sacred cloth.

Marijuana also had an exalted status in India. According to legends, their God of Thunder and Master of Yoga enjoyed drinking a weed-infused drink called bhang. Holy men and women of early Hinduism made ganja offerings to both entities in ceremonies.

The herb wasn’t only for the Gods in Hinduism, either. The Vedic literature, its earliest religious scripture, contains poems about a drink called Soma. Western scholars recently concluded that weed was the primary stimulant in this blend.

An ancient Persian cult used marijuana as a sacrament. The entire Sufi branch of Islam appears to have consumed the plant to reach a state of ecstasy.

The Jewish culture also appears to have added pot to its Holy Anointing Oil. These incense recipes were psychoactive, leading to group highs during ceremonies.

These early records of plant spirituality aren’t coincidental. The very fact that ganja was so widespread lends credence to its use as a spiritual lubricant. What does current evidence say about it?

Cannabis as an Entheogen

Modern discussions of marijuana and spirituality often invoke the term entheogens. Substances under this category are psychoactive and often used in ritual and religious ceremonies.

Entheogens aid spiritual development because they induce changes in perception, cognition, and consciousness. Notable examples include magic mushrooms, LSD, and, indeed, cannabis. If you’re interested in exploring other natural substances that promote spiritual growth, a mushroom grow kit is what you might also want to try. These substances offer unique and transformative experiences, opening doors to esoteric ideas and deeper connections with the self and the universe.

We may consider ganja a ‘light’ entheogen. Unlike many others, it usually doesn’t take you on a mind-altering trip. Instead, it induces discreet changes that promote connection without forcing a break from your everyday life.

A recent survey looked into the entheogenic use of marijuana. Scientists found that many spiritual people choose the herb for meditation and prayer. Over 60% of respondents reported finding the combination physically and mentally beneficial.

On the physical front, cannabis appears to alleviate aches and other hindrances to reaching a clear mental state. When high, people find it easier to settle into their seats and take the time to explore their minds.

The psychological element is even more potent. Weed has stress-relieving and mood-boosting properties. Higher doses of THC are also psychoactive. As a result, taking might free you from mundane concerns and open your mind to esoteric ideas.

Traveling the Spiritual Realm

Combining historical and scientific perspectives, let’s now see how to use cannabis spiritually. The plant’s manageable impact suits two purposes. Heavy doses are powerful and ritualistic; smaller amounts let you microdose spirituality.

The first case requires plenty of potent flowers. Some cannabis seed banks even stock strains developed for the purpose, like Shaman and Laughing Buddha.

Seek herbs with heady effects and those that border on psychedelia to connect your body and spirit with cannabis. Prepare your surroundings and settle in your seat, breathing throughout the high. We suggest guided meditation for beginners.

The second application is less intense, making it suitable for everyday use. It relies on the idea that every human has the capacity for spirituality. We only need a bit of assistance.

Connecting to the spiritual realm isn’t something reserved for rituals. Moving with intention, taking deep breaths, and appreciating mother earth are all ways to do it. People lead stressful lives where it’s hard to take the time to exist, though.

For this reason, many choose non-psychoactive CBD for relaxation or take small puffs of potent cultivars.

Using weed like this breaks down the physical and psychological barriers to presence. The herb leaves you relaxed and comfortable but not too intoxicated. You puff, sit, and soon return to reality. The more you do it, the easier it is to reach divinity without natural assistance.

Get High on Spirituality

The critical thing to remember is that your ‘weed spirit’ isn’t something induced by the plant. You’ve always had it; toking only lets it cut through the noise of daily life.

A puff can help you ground and connect, while larger doses lead to a ritualistic communion with the universe. In either case, ganja offers outstanding assistance for reaching spiritual heights.

Be sure to buy seeds and grow crops for the best results. Producing buds brings you closer to the soil and helps you ground as you get high.
