With the newly released Epstein files, the well known case of Madeleine McCann has resurfaced again. She was a three year old girl who disappeared from her British family during a holiday in Portugal. I first read about Madeleine back in 2007 when it happened, and sometime around 2020 I looked at her birth chart because her birth time had also been made public.
Madeleine’s chart is, in one word, a mystery. In this article I want to look at her natal chart, but mainly at the transits on the day she disappeared. I will use the present tense because it is still unknown what happened to the little girl, even though astrology can reveal many things.
Natal Chart
Madeleine was born on Monday, May 12, 2003, at 6:15 PM in Leicester (United Kingdom). Her Ascendant is in Libra, the Moon is also in Libra, and the Sun is in Taurus. We see strong Venusian energy here, so Venus plays a very important role in her life. However, when we look at Madeleine’s Venus, it is in Aries on the Descendant, on the cusp of the 7th house, making an exact opposition to the Ascendant.
This alone can describe some form of aggression or an aggressive act carried out by someone else, by other people (7th house), in an aggressive or fast and impulsive way (Aries), and on a physical level (opposition to the ASC).
Madeleine has her Sun in Taurus in the 7th house without aspects, which often shows that this planet operates in extremes, one way or the other. During transits it becomes extremely sensitive. An unaspected Sun can also point to issues with men, authority figures, or the father.
Her Mercury is also in Taurus, retrograde, conjunct Lilith, again in the 7th house. This conjunction by itself can mean many things. I have seen people who are not afraid to speak no matter the cost, even risking their lives, as well as travelers who go to extreme or dangerous destinations. There is also the possibility that this conjunction points to danger abroad. Not necessarily during trekking or adrenaline activities, but rather during rest, on a family holiday, in a shared space with other people, because Taurus represents comfort.
In the overall chart, one thing stood out to me, even back in 2020 when I first saw it. That is the Mars conjunct Neptune, forming an exact square to Madeleine’s Mercury.
Here we are no longer talking only about danger while traveling, but about mysterious danger, a major enigma.
The Mars Neptune conjunction is in her 4th house of family and roots, which on its own suggests unusual circumstances within the family environment. Aquarius itself carries a mysterious tone, not necessarily strange, but the square to Mercury retrograde and Lilith in the 7th house clearly speaks about a mystery involving family and other people, likely someone wealthy or at least very financially secure. These two conjunctions are also part of a T square with Jupiter in her 10th house in Leo, which creates an image of a disappearance surrounded by mystery, involving family, other people, finances, and possibly fame.
Of course there are multiple possibilities. I am not trying to say that the family is responsible, even though I cannot ignore certain signatures (Neptune Mars in the 4th house, Moon square Saturn, unaspected Sun).
Transits on the Day of the Disappearance
Madeleine disappeared on May 3, 2007, in the evening hours in the town of Luz, Portugal. It was less than two weeks before her birthday, and the transit chart shows exactly what I sensed when looking at the natal chart. Her unaspected Sun plays the most important role here.
Transiting Neptune, still in her 4th house, formed an exact square to her Sun. On its own this speaks about a dissolving of life’s energy and identity. Not necessarily death, but disappearance, uncertainty about where she actually is. In addition, transiting Lilith made an exact quincunx to the Sun from the 12th house, naturally associated with Neptune, again highlighting themes of disappearance and mystery.
A Mercury return took place, with a Mercury Mercury conjunction in the 7th house, bringing themes of other people, short journeys, and communication. Transiting Sun squared her Mars Neptune conjunction while also conjunct her retrograde Mercury.
Transiting Saturn at that time was in her 10th house, which can bring limitations or uncomfortable encounters or actions with someone significantly older, likely very well known or wealthy, possibly a foreigner, because Saturn was making a trine to her Pluto in Sagittarius while Jupiter formed a conjunction with Pluto in the 2nd house.
This entire configuration speaks not only about a mysterious disappearance, but also about unusual circumstances connected to the home environment, because a 4th house in Aquarius with Mars, Neptune, and Uranus is rarely ordinary or traditional when it comes to family and background.
How I Interpret It
As an ordinary person, I cannot make rushed conclusions or accuse anyone. I do not know Madeleine or her family. However, it seems very clear that more than one person was involved in her disappearance, and family involvement appears possible.
Could money have played a role? Possibly. I am more inclined to see someone with significant power or influential connections behind it. Someone from outside the UK, likely from the United States or living overseas in one direction or another. And since the transiting Moon that evening was in her 2nd house, I cannot help but feel that some form of exchange or transaction may have been involved, that her family paid for or perceived as something valuable.
If we are ever meant to learn more about Madeleine, it may happen when transiting Pluto forms a conjunction with her key life configuration, the Mars Neptune conjunction, around the years 2030 to 2031.
