Has the sound of a crow’s caw outside your window ever caught you off guard? While some may consider it as just a loud bird, others are convinced that there is a deeper spiritual significance attached to crows.
As a child, I used to fear crows because of a story about a woman whose eyes were pecked out by crows. I don’t know whether the story was based on truth or not, but it scared the crap out of me, and I still have a lot of respect for this bird, particularly when I hear it cawing outside my window.
Symbolism of Crows
Crows have been a part of human history and mythology for thousands of years. In many cultures, these beautiful birds are associated with magic, witchcraft, mystery, and even death.
- In many Native American cultures, crows are viewed as sacred creatures that are believed to be messengers from the spirit world. They are closely linked to creation myths and are thought to have the power to communicate with spirits. Additionally, the crow is looked upon as a protector and guide, often giving signs or warnings to those who seek them.
- In Hinduism, crows are considered to be sacred animals that have a special connection to the Lord Yama, the god of the dead. It is believed that feeding crows can bring blessings and good fortune while harming them can invite bad luck and misfortune.
- In ancient Egypt, crows were associated with the goddess of magic, Isis. They were believed to possess supernatural powers and were often depicted in art and hieroglyphics.
- In other cultures, crows symbolize death and the afterlife. They are believed to serve as intermediaries who can lead spirits to the afterlife, and their appearance is frequently interpreted as an indication of imminent passing.
As you can see, the symbolism of crows includes both positive and negative connotations, but they are often linked to death due to their black color, mysterious appearance, and negative depiction in movies.
A Message From The Spirit World
Due to crow’s association with death and the afterlife, their presence is often seen as a sign that the spirit world is trying to communicate with us. Moreover, windows symbolize the soul in both spiritual and dream contexts. So a crow crowing outside of the window could be a sign that someone from the other side wants to communicate with you or give you some important message.
Some beliefs and superstitions even claim that the number of crows could reveal what it is trying to convey.
- If you see two crows together, it could mean that balance is needed in your life.
- If you see three crows, it could signify that you should make wiser decisions and listen to your intuition.
- Only one crow encourages you to stand up for your opinions and be less dependent on others.
An Omen of Bad News
If you hear a crow cawing outside or near your window, it may be a sign that something negative is about to happen in your life, at least according to beliefs that date back to ancient times when people believed that crows were messengers of the gods.
Crows do not have a specific association with any particular aspect of life, such as health, love, or finances. Therefore, their presence could indicate a range of negative occurrences, including sickness, injury, divorce, or financial difficulties.
It’s worth noting that in ancient superstitions, it was believed that the more crows there were, the more severe the impending disaster would be. However, these beliefs have their roots in ancient times and should be viewed with a degree of skepticism.
Life Transition
Since crows serve as a medium between the light and the dark, or life and death, if you will, their presence is often seen as a sign of change or transition.
On a spiritual level, a crow cawing near a window or house could be a sign that your life is about to go through a transition or that you need to let go of what no longer serves you and open up to something new.
Natural Disasters
Another possible reason for a crow cawing outside your window could be a sign of an impending natural disaster. Crows have been known to exhibit unusual behavior before earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural calamities. In such cases, the crow may be trying to get your attention and warn you of the impending danger or even trying to get into your house.
