If your cat or another pet has gone missing, horary astrology can help you figure out where to look and whether you’re likely to find them. By casting a chart for the moment you ask a question such as Where is my cat?, you can examine the animal’s possible location, distance from home, and chances of returning.
I’ve always loved cats, and I know how difficult it is to search for one without knowing where to start. Horary astrology is something I would personally turn to, alongside checking nearby hiding places, speaking to neighbors, and contacting local shelters.
In this guide, I’ll explain which houses and planets represent your missing pet, how to read their position in the chart, and what to look for if you’re hoping for a reunion.
How Horary Astrology Works
Horary astrology answers a specific question using the date, time, and location associated with that question.
To cast a chart:
- Ask a clear question, such as Where is my cat? or Will I find my missing dog?
- Record the exact time and location the question is asked and understood.
- Cast a horary chart for that moment.
- Examine the planets and houses representing you, your pet, and their possible whereabouts.
Unlike a natal chart, horary focuses on one particular situation.
Finding Your Pet in the Horary Chart
In traditional horary astrology, cats, dogs, and other small pets belong to the 6th house. Larger animals, such as cows or horses, belong to the 12th. If you consider the pet as your child and love them so much, we can also look at the 5th house.

The most important planet is the ruler of the 6th house, also called your pet’s significator.
For example, if Leo is on the 6th house cusp, the Sun represents your cat. If Taurus is there, Venus represents them.
Reading the Chart for Location Clues
Start by finding the ruler of the 6th house. Its house placement can suggest where to search, and its zodiac sign adds details about the surroundings.
For example, a pet’s significator in an earth sign may suggest somewhere low, close to the ground, or near soil and storage areas. A water sign could point toward a bathroom, drain, pond, or another damp location.
Next, examine the Moon and its applying aspects. An applying aspect between your significator and your pet’s significator can support the possibility of reunion, especially with reception. The Moon applying to either significator may also describe how the search develops.
A separating aspect describes something that has already happened. By itself, it cannot establish that your cat has left the neighborhood.
Also, examine the 4th house for clues about the outcome and the 7th if you suspect another person has found your pet.
Example: A Missing Cat
Imagine asking Where is my cat? and casting a chart with these placements:
- Sagittarius rising: Jupiter represents you.
- Taurus on the 6th house: Venus represents your cat.
- Venus in Virgo in the 4th house: Search near home, particularly low or enclosed spaces.
- Moon applying to Venus: A possible indication of contact or reunion.
- Saturn in the 3rd house: The immediate neighborhood, nearby buildings, or a difficult-to-access place may deserve attention.
I would start with the basement, laundry room, storage spaces, and areas behind furniture. Outside, I would check neighboring garages, sheds, and spaces beneath steps or porches.
The applying Moon-Venus aspect is encouraging, but I would examine reception, planetary condition, and the rest of the chart before judging the likelihood of recovery.
House Placements and Possible Hiding Places
Once you’ve identified your pet’s significator, check which house it occupies.

These are starting points. A planet’s sign, direction, and proximity to the angles can help you make the location more specific.
For traditional rulerships, use Mars for Aries and Scorpio, Venus for Taurus and Libra, Mercury for Gemini and Virgo, the Moon for Cancer, the Sun for Leo, Jupiter for Sagittarius and Pisces, and Saturn for Capricorn and Aquarius.
Will You Find Your Missing Cat?
To judge the possibility of reunion, look for an applying aspect between the ruler of the 1st house and the ruler of the 6th. The Moon can also help connect the two significators through translation or collection of light.
Reception and planetary dignity add important details. An applying aspect alone is insufficient for a confident judgment, and a difficult-looking chart is no reason to stop searching.
Keep Searching
If your cat is missing, start close to home. Scared cats can squeeze into surprisingly small spaces and stay hidden even if you’ve already searched nearby. Check under cars, behind bins, inside sheds, garages, and basements. Ask your neighbors to check their properties too.
Contact local shelters and veterinarians, report your pet missing to the microchip registry, and share their photo in local Facebook groups.
I’ve successfully located several missing pets using horary astrology, including my own kitten. In my experience, the charts have been remarkably accurate, sometimes pointing to places I would never have thought to search. That’s why I always recommend giving horary a try alongside searching in person.
