He made a public declaration of his intention to run for the presidency of the Czech Republic on September 6, 2022. He won in the first round of the presidential election on January 14, 2023, and advanced to the second round. He won against Andrej Babiš and was elected as the president of the Czech Republic after winning the second round of the election held on January 27 and 28, 2023.
